Genesis Project has, during period February – July 2009, implemented research in 12 segregated schools in Middle Bosnia Canton. During implementation of the Research, we conducted following activities:

During research process we identified following:

  • communication, cooperation and dialogue between two major ethnic groups (Bosniaks and Croats) does not exist,
  • fear from lost of national identity,
  • multi-culturally and coexistence are experienced as attempt to erase differences between nationalities, religions and confessions,
  • schoolteachers, children and parents live in “conspiracy of the science” , without communication, cooperation and dialogue.

Also, our research has showed following:

  • target groups are ready to take and participate in joint actions in order to, through personal contacts, get to know each other and become closer,
  • target groups have recognized the need to be educated about peaceful conflict resolution and communication skills,
  • out of 565 pupils who participated in the opinion poll, 74% confirmed that they would like to attend section that they like with pupils different nationalities / religions,
  • out of total number (565) of children who participated in the opinion poll, 85% confirmed that they need workshops on which they would learn about peaceful conflict resolution skills,
  • out of 554 parents who participated in the opinion poll, 84% confirmed that their child attends section with pupils different nationalities / religions,
  • out of total number (554) of parents who participated in the opinion poll, 95% confirmed that their children need workshops on which they would learn about peaceful conflict resolution skills,
  • in total 98% of parents who participated in the opinion poll, confirmed that they would agree and support their child participation in such a workshop,
  • all interviewed schoolteachers, children and parents agreed that they need activities where they would be thought communication and peaceful conflict resolution skills,
  • all interviewed schoolteachers, children and parents accepted to participate in joint activities together with pupils, schoolteachers and parents from other ethnic groups.

Research has shown that all project target groups (schoolteachers, parents and pupils) are ready to be targeted through joint actions and activities.
The project is designed in three phases.

The first phase of the project implementation will be focused on two major target groups: schoolteachers and parents. With these target groups we plan to organize a serial of one-day long trainings, where members of all ethnic groups (primarily Croats and Bosniaks) will jointly participate.

Second phase of the project implementation will be focused on children as major target group. For children we will organize a set of different activities such as: workshops for Core Groups, activities in the classes, puppet shows, etc.

Third phase will be implemented jointly, among all primary schools targeted through the project, and it will be connected with art and creativity (depending from children’s’ proposal, wishes and needs).

It is important to note that all project activities will be designed and developed with participation from the Middle Bosnia Ministry of Education.
